As the major air center for the Capital Region, Tech Valley, Northeastern New York and
Western New England, the Albany International Airport offers a wide-range of facilities
and services.
The Airport, located seven miles north of downtown Albany, is accessible via
several major interstate and state highways, including I-90 and the Northway (I-87). It is
the fourth busiest commercial airport in New York State with an average of 284 daily commercial
arrivals and departures.
In 1998 a multi-million dollar capital redevelopment project including a new 230,000
square foot terminal, 1,600 car parking garage, Air Traffic Control Tower and cargo facility
was completed. In 1999 a 16,000 square foot extension was added to the terminal and
in 2000 an 800 car addition was built adjacent to the parking garage.
The Airport recently
embarked on a five-year $232 million Capital Plan to improve and maintain safety and to
meet the needs of air travelers and air carriers well into the 21st Century. This plan
includes expansion of a runway and the terminal. This year the Albany International Airport
was named one of the Best Small Airports in the Northeast by Forbes magazine. |
